A 16-bit giant. The TMS9900 was one of the first 16-bit microprocessors, used in the TI-99/4A home computer. It is housed in a massive 64-pin DIP package that looks like a candy bar made of ceramic and gold.
It was a brilliant architecture that treated registers as memory addresses, making context switching incredibly fast. However, it was expensive to manufacture and lacked the software support of the 6502 and Z80, dooming it to obscurity.
