The Voice of the Z80. The Parallel Input/Output (PIO) controller was the bridge between the CPU and the outside world. It allowed the Z80 to talk to printers, keyboards, and robotic arms. Without this chip, the Z80 would be a genius trapped in a box with no way to communicate.
